    jboss cmp is snake juice

Some reasons why jboss (CMP) is snake juice... feel free to add yours below.

      1. There is no way to find definitive information:

The jboss4.0 book is silly and kind of exemplifies jboss frustration. It specs out the conf files real well, but not much of anything else, its already mostly useless in terms of CMP, and most of what is mentioned is not even possible (CMP tuning for example should be torn out of the book).

The wiki is wrong at times, has too little information, and aims to solve answers for a mash of server versions so who knows which server is being discussed for any of the info, hence most of it is bad info for your server version.

Forums board gets no answers for tough problems, misleading answers, wrong answers, and constant SQUAWK talk.

Why on earth would I become a Jboss cert when I have no study info? Or for that matter, why build a complex ejb/cmp system on jboss?

      2. Is CMP a viable solution anymore or have we decided to ditch it? Jboss seems to be saying that we should ditch it for hibernate/ejb3, but once you go down that path you'll face the same #1 above sooner or later.

      3. CMP locking locking locking nolocking locking ... nonsense.

At least we have the source code though ...

ejb3/hibernate is the future way, and 3. certainly counteracts 1. There is already much more information about hibernate and its tuning then there is on cmp.

You certainly got a point there. Paying for the docs gets you indeed a nice printout of conf-files and solutions are hard to get (for free), as you already have seen in this forum.
But always look at it at positive side, especially when you are in a deep and dark position when you think it will never work. The reward is so much bigger when you get your JBoss working stable. And maybe for comfort, you are not alone. I have spend months to get JBoss 3 to work stable. And with the recent switch from JBoss 3 to JBoss 4 it starts all over again. I can't wait to get my reward of taiming JBoss 4!

Unfortunately i cannot help you with CMP. I use Hibernate.

The documentation is available to download for free now, the only 'pay-for' documentation are the books that are currently in print.

Maybe I'm just a bit miffed that the Jboss4.0 book was so lame on CMP. That was the only reason to pay for it, and it looks like the intrepid jboss guys can't even explain their own stuff on that topic, or don't want to ...

Why didn't you look at the free HTML pages then? It is the same content FYI.

While the documentation seems to work for most people, we would obviously welcome any change you would want to bring.

                  Cheers,
