my programe can not insert chinese characters into mysql cor

my application is deployed on redhat AS3 +jboss4.0.3sp1+mysql5.0+mysqlconnector/j 3.1

but I met a problem that the programe can not insert chinese characters into database correctly ,but can display chinese characters that have in database already.
