hide/show outputPanels

i want to have 2 a4j:outputPanels, both are initially hidden. how can i have it hidden initially? and how can i show/hide 1 panel or the other using javascript?

but could i just put that style definition on the outputPanel itself? how do i get the outputPanel element thru javascript?

for example my outputPanel id="tpanel"

so how can i use document.getElementById to access it?
