    Jboss/Tomcat very slow on Linux

      Hi,
I'm new to Jboss/Tomcat. I have an application deployed on Jboss2.4.4_Tomcat3.2.3 on Linux RedHat 7.0.
The application runs very slowly. If the server is down and I do a ps -v -U for java processes then I don't get a single java process running but after starting Jboss/Tomcat I get around 80 very heavy java processes.
Is this normal, or do I have to configure Jboss/Tomcat separately so that I can reduce the number of processes? Please clarify.
The application runs normally but is very slow.

      Thanks and regards,
