There are a variety of threads discussing the appropriate location / placement of common jar files (so, for example, they can be deployed once and made available to all web applications).
What is the appropriate location?
Many threads suggest placing such *common* jars in the JBOSS_HOME/lib/ext directory; however, this directory is not included with my distribution (jboss-3.0.0_tomcat-4.0.3 binary distribution).
When I create an /ext directory and place my .jars there, classes from the .jar are still not found (ClassNotFoundException).
Please advise.

For 3.0 server/default/lib is the equivalent
You can also add new jars at runtime by putting them in
server/default/deploy
