Web Application won't deploy

Using JBOS 3.0.4 we are trying to deploy a web application by putting the .war file in the server/default/deploy directory. The error message we are getting is :

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/servlet/http/HttpServlet

even though the javax.servlet.jar file is present in the server/default/lib directory and gets deployed according to the server output.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

This is usually caused by adding to the classpath
of the java command in run.bat or run.sh
Don't do it, put your jars in server/default/lib
