The mbean named jboss.system:type=serverInfo contains an ActiveThreadCount attribute. Is that what you are looking for?

You can use jmx-console, or twiddle, to view the mbean.

Note that the attribute I mentioned gives the number of active threads, not the number of active connections. I haven't found the active connection count yet. Maybe someone else knows where it is?
