Datatable value compulsory?

We use Datatable for static data, but it doesn't get render if we don't set value attribute. Is this really neccesary?

DataTable without underlying data? May be simple PanelGrid will help you?

We've found dataTable both easy to use and visually attractive, since its style fits paged uses of dataTable. "Dynamicity" is great, folks, but sometimes static is good enough ;)
