2. Re: Modify Quick start?
schaefera Oct 16, 2002 12:55 PM (in response to siegfried1)Of course you can but because they are word documents the are some rules:
- checkout the word documents from CVS
- open them and go to "tools->track changes->highlight changes" and make sure that this checkbox is checked
- make your changes
- send the changed document to me (andreas@jboss.org)
Otherwise you could loose your work when you just upload your changed word document directly.

siegfried1 Oct 16, 2002 4:16 PM (in response to siegfried1)Andy,
I'm sorry, I think I need more explicit instructions. Tools? I have downloaded a copy of CVS.
I assume I start CVS and then somehow point it to jboss.org?

tdang Oct 17, 2002 3:41 AM (in response to siegfried1)Hi Andy,
What are you going to modify? I want to do it, too. I do not want to do the same if you have already done.
Regards. -
5. Re: Modify Quick start?
siegfried1 Oct 17, 2002 7:03 PM (in response to siegfried1)I wanted to put in better directions for running the samples such as
(1) How to look at your tables in hypersonic
(2) How to run the clients (cmp2 requires you say "ant setup")
(3) I anted to emphasize that all the samples use the default deploy directory and not the "all" deploy directory.
(4) I wanted to emphasize some things that could go wrong. -

7. Re: Modify Quick start?
schaefera Oct 18, 2002 9:20 PM (in response to siegfried1)Hi
You can reach me under andreas@jboss.org if it is important.
To change the Word document please
- open it with M$ Word
- go to the Menu
- open "Tools"
- click on "Track Changes"
(if you use Word 97 you must make sure that Highlight Changes is selected)
Now any changes on the document has another color and is underlined.
THEN SEND ME THE document and I review the changes and incorporate the changes if necessary.
Have fun - Andy -

9. Re: Modify Quick start?
alwyn Oct 19, 2002 12:46 PM (in response to siegfried1)Hmmm,
Has anyone ever thought of making the documents like the
quick start guide web based? I'm thinking in line with how the php documentation is on php.net? Maybe not only limited to comments...
From the pictures on jboss.org I suspected that many of the developers are advanced in certain academic areas. This would suggest that their preferred documentation format would be tex. Must have guessed wrong. Anyway, why not use a base format which anybody with a text editor can process? -

siegfried1 Oct 20, 2002 5:56 PM (in response to siegfried1)alwyn: You can convert it. Actually, I was thinking of converting it to XML for use with FOP in my copious spare time.
Andy,
Where do I get the word version? I only know how to get the PDF version! I assume the original is kept in CVS. Can you tell me how to use CVS to get it?
Thanks,
