1. Re: Documentation Error - Cant find
adrian.brock Jun 23, 2005 2:07 PM (in response to solver)In this cunningly entitled forum. :-)
But then if you couldn't even find this forum (or READ THIS FIRST in the jmx forum),
I'm not surprised you can't find the conf/ folder. -

norman.richards Jun 23, 2005 2:23 PM (in response to solver)It's possible he's just using the wrong version of JBoss. The props directory didn't exist until 4.0.2.

3. Re: Documentation Error - Cant find
solver Jun 23, 2005 2:26 PM (in response to solver)I find your response arrogant and bad business sense.
You dont know anything about me, what influence I have or how I might be considering paying for services from your company; so why choose to be so flippant I just don't know.
I only hope that your attitude is not representative of the corporation itself.
I am compelled to contrast your reply to my posting with this sentence found here:
http://www.jboss.com/company/index
professional support services expected of a traditional software vendor
You certainly need to ask your manager's opinion to see if your reply is at odds with this company goal.
I'm neither impressed nor intimidated by sarcasm, you have no idea what stresses and pressure I may be under whilst I am trying to follow your documentation, study the product, execute test etc, and how this might lead me to miss something from time to time.
You have said nothing about the discrepancy between the documentation and the directory structure that I have here, so how about less pretension and some goold old professionalism?

4. Re: Documentation Error - Cant find
solver Jun 23, 2005 2:30 PM (in response to solver)For any professional individuals that may be following this thread, my expanded dir pathname is:
C:\WebPlatform\Downloads\JBoss\4.0.2RC1\jboss-4.0.2RC1\server\default\conf
and in that dir are two sub dirs
jboss.web
xmdesc
I cannot see any dir named "props" so either I am looking in thr wrong place or the documentation has a typo.
Many thanks

5. Re: Documentation Error - Cant find
solver Jun 23, 2005 2:40 PM (in response to solver)OK I scanned my dir tree, only these dirs contain a file named "jmx-console-users.properties"
C:\WebPlatform\Downloads\JBoss\4.0.2RC1\jboss-4.0.2RC1\server\all\deploy\jmx-console.war\WEB-INF\classes
and
C:\WebPlatform\Downloads\JBoss\4.0.2RC1\jboss-4.0.2RC1\server\default\deploy\jmx-console.war\WEB-INF\classes
also from what I can see, there is no directory anywhere in the unzipped tree, called "props".

adrian.brock Jun 23, 2005 2:49 PM (in response to solver)Congratulations, you just failed the sense of humour test and have one less person
to give you *FREE* help.
Next time, I'll leave you stewing in the wrong forum with no responses.
On the rest of your verbage, I've heard it all before.
This is jboss.org (open source free help for non time wasters)
not jboss.com (professional open source for people that pay). -

4.0.2RC1 means release candidate. It means it's not the real 4.0.2 and that things might change before the final release. In this case, it did. Please download JBoss 4.0.2 and try again. -

9. Re: Documentation Error - Cant find
solver Jun 23, 2005 3:03 PM (in response to solver)Yes Adrian and you work for JBoss Inc, or so your signature claims; so like it or not you are representing the corporation and convey an impression of their overal quality of service and approach to handling customer support.
If that was all you had to offer, then better to have said nothing, surely?
Don't go on about "free", please? I could claim to be giving you free feedback on bugs and documentation errors, could I not?
I have been using the software for a couple of hours and have sent you one acknowledged bug and one documentation error, this can only help to improve the product and hence the company of which you are an employee, so it is I who has helped you I think.
Now regarding the doc, I think it is clear that it is in error and this should now be corrected with as much vigor as is expended on bug fixing.
Perhaps it is only the Win32 build that does this but whatever, here is an opportunity to improve the product yet further.

Hugh
PS: I have no problem with humor, but your posting was not humorous and uses no smileys to convey that, it also ignored the essence of my post and focused upon me, the poster rather than the substance of what was originally posted. -

It was only because you reported the jmx bug that I didn't ignore you, like everybody
else would have done with the quality of questions.
One thing about free forums (there I used the word again :-) is that nobody likes a time
sink that obviously isn't doing any research for themselves. You just get ignored (at best).
It isn't my fault that my supposed joke was taken the wrong way and answered with
a tirade of abuse.
