How to close rich:messages?

Is there any way to hide/close the messages shown through a rich:messages component? I'm trying to add a close link somewhere around the messages section so that the user could see the messages and then close that section in order to continue working on the presented page.

You could warp rich:messages in panelGrid and set rendered="false" when you click on 'close' link.

rich:simpleTogglePanel is also quite useful for hiding/showing pieces of pages

OK, both your answers are similar: wrap and control visibility with a parameter (for example de rendered attribute of the panelGrid). What should be the value of that attribute? How can I set it to something like "if there is any message shown").
