Dev update site does not work for Eclipse

    zorzella

Though I can see m3 listed in the URL for the update site (http://download.jboss.org/jbosside/updates/development) in my browser, if I try to access it from the update manager, all I see is a blank. Even if I uncheck "Show the lastest version only" I still see no entries.

      Any ideas?

No changes to the better during the last week. All the links on that page are broken.

Personally I like the rather funny aspect, that after sporadic problems on sourceforge.net we now have permananent problems with the new solution ;))

            haha ;)

I'll see what i can do with the jbosside, but in the mean while if its the hibernate tools you just want go look at http://download.jboss.org/jbosside/hibernatetools/updates/development/

Ok - there were some typos in site.xml which I have now fixed.

It works in my end now - let me know if you succeed.

After a long cold lonely summer, I can use update manager again.

                THANKS!!!!

Was there an update for the main site? I still come up blank when I try it. I tested the links and none of them seem to point to a jar file.

the update site is intended to be used by the update manager in eclipse.

Max, the update from within eclipse isn't working yet.

As zen_mark pointed out, all the links listed on the development site are invalid. This is in contrast to the links on the update site for the stable versions! All the links over there are valid links to jar files.

So I can't believe it's healthy if the links on the developnment update site point to non existing files. Poor eclipse can't know where to grab the files if the links on that page don't know that either.

I and others have verified that the update site manager works from inside eclipse.

Please post the url where you find broken links.

Well, that is kind of strange. I just checked again and it doesn't work for me.

The URL I use is: http://download.jboss.org/jbosside/updates/development/ (from the announcement thread)
Eclipse message (Help > Software Updates > Find and Install): No features found on the selected site(s). Choose a different site or site category.

If I load that page with a browser and click on "org.jboss.ide.eclipse.ejb3.feature - 1.5M3" for instance, I keep on getting the following error:
                          Not Found

The requested URL /jbosside/updates/development/features/org.jboss.ide.eclipse.ejb3.feature_1.5M3.jar was not found on this server.
                          Apache/2.0.54 (Debian GNU/Linux) DAV/2 SVN/1.2.1 Server at download.jboss.org Port 80

So to me it looks like there is no file download.jboss.org/jbosside/updates/development/features/org.jboss.ide.eclipse.ejb3.feature_1.5M3.jar. But I guess you already double checked that.

Hope this helps to catch the problem.

I double checkked ...eclipse update manager works fine (also try to uncheck the "only look for features applicable to this system" since you might have preinstalled stuff)

In my browser(s) I get the following list:

                            org.jboss.ide.eclipse.ejb3.feature - 1.0.0.beta4

                            org.jboss.ide.eclipse.jdt.aop.feature - 1.1.0.beta4.jar

                            org.jboss.ide.eclipse.feature - 1.5.0.M3

                            org.jbpm.feature - 3.0.3

                            org.hibernate.eclipse.feature - 3.1.0.alpha6

and all point to a similar jar.

For me it looks like you have a cached or proxied page.

Yes, sorry, you are right concerning the browser. Looks like my Firefox refused to reload the page. The links on the page I'm getting now are ok.

However, eclipse still refuses to do the job, same message as before (No features on the selected site. Choose...). Not sure what is going on there. If I check the update site for the stable version I'm observing a completely different behaviour. But maybe there is also some caching involved. Unfortunately I can't reboot the machine right now, I need to wait for a huge test job to finish first.

you at least need to restart eclipse since eclipse caches update site contents until restart.

Well, I closed eclipse and KDE, then logged off. After logging in I tried again but not change. The only other thing I can do is to reboot the computer. But as I said before, I need to wait...

I'm really not sure what is going on here. There is no proxi or cache I'm aware of. But right now I think it's best to wait until Sunday and see what happens after I reboot the system. I think, I will delete the update site within eclipse and reenter it after the reboot. I guess it's the only way to be really sure everything will be freshly loaded.

Let's hope I'm the only one who has trouble to access the update site now.

Well, meanwhile I rebooted the computer and set up the update site in eclipse again. Eclipse still says "No features found on the selected site(s). Choose a different site or site category"

I was also able to verfy that the development update site works a 32-bit x86 system with Windows XP. However, on my own development system with eclipse 3.1.0 (on 64-bit AMD64 system with Gentoo Linux, kernel 2.6.12 and Sun's Java 1.5.0_05 it doesn't work. The "stable" update site seems to work fine (I get a choice of features), but if I select the development update site I keep on getting the already mentioned message "No features found on the selected site(s). Choose a different site or site category"

I'm honestly running out of ideas now. From my point of view the next step could be to wait for the next Eclipse update and to take the opportunity to do a completely fresh installation. Or is all this mess making sense to anybody?
