    What is to be downloaded?

Few questions (please answer whatever you know):

      1) What is the "-nodeps" version of each download listed on http://labs.jboss.com/portal/jbosside/download/index.html?

      2) What does the "All JBossIDE plugins" download on the above page include from the rest of that page? What does "All" really mean -- everything on that page? Please describe which ones if you know.

      3) What does downloading the "JBossIDE Bundle" download include from the rest of that page?

      4) Where is support for JSF, JPA, and Seam? I don't see downloads for these things on that page.

I really can't understand what includes what, and what depends on what. Could somebody who knows please explain this in response to this post?

      Thanks a lot.

          1) We thought this would be self explanatory, but apparently it is not. "nodeps" means "no dependencies" is included, so they are lighter and faster to download but requries that you have WTP already installed.

          2) The comment says it all: This zip includes all plugins of JBossIDE 2.0.0.Beta2

          3) Again, its in the comment: This zip contains a completely self-contained distribution of JBossIDE 2.0.0.Beta2, Webtools 1.5.1, and Eclipse 3.2.1.

          4) The Eclipse JSF and JPA plugin does not exist in a stable enough version for us to include. Seam support is not available yet. Anyone who wants to make this happen should come around and contribute to it.

          • 2. Re: What is to be downloaded?

            2) It's not evident in the comment. You assume that we know what all the plugins of JBossIDE 2.0.0.Beta2 are. On the download page is a huge list of different zip files, and we don't know which ones are included in this download.

            3) What is part of this JBossIDE 2.0.0.Beta2? Again, there are so many different zip files on the download page...are all those zip files included as part of JBossIDE? Must the "all plugins" be downloaded ON TOP OF this for a full installation?

            4) JSF and JPA plugins are a part of Webtools 1.5.1. So if you don't include them in your bundle, you can't say anywhere that you include Webtools 1.5.1. VERY misleading if I am correct...am I?

            - Difference between Hibernate Tools and Dali JPA?
            - Difference between Hibernate Tools and EJB3 Tools?
(Seeing as how JBoss EJB3 is built on Hibernate.)

            - What's included in JBossIDE-Core-2.0.0.Beta2.zip?

            - What's included in JBossIDE-JBossAS-Tools-1.0.0.Beta2.zip?

It'd be very beneficial to us if you could simply include a list of exactly what zip files are included as part of each download. (For example, downloading JBossIDE-Core-2.0.0.Beta2.zip gets you the following...) It'd be much easier than us trying every single download.

(By the way, the download page can be much better documented for users who want a custom install.)

I await your responses so that I can get started evaluating the latest version of JBossIDE for my organization.

            Thanks.

              2) All = *all* plugins - nothing more; nothing less. The other zip files are simply there to allow you to get the individual parts if you don't need them all.

              3) All the plugins. And no you don't need to download the individual plugins if you download the distribution that has all plugins.

              4) JSF and JPA are *not* part of Webtools 1.5.1. They are only available as a seperate download. (if that has changed in a .1 release then please give me a link that shows it). Note, nothing prevents you from downloading and installing these additonal plugins.

              5) Difference between Hibernate Tools and Dali JPA ? Long story short: Dali JPA is purely focused on standard JPA annotation editing and it is an Eclipse Project intended for 3rd party vendors to built upon.

Hibernate Tools is our toolset which includes support for hibernate.xml, hibernate annotations and JPA annotations. There is code generation, query execution, code completion in mappings and code, etc.

Currently the two tools are complementary (even though JPA also have a *small* part of DDL generation) and when we get the possibility to include Dali we probably will.

Difference between Hibernate Tools and EJB Tools ? Hibernate Tools is for using Hibernate/JPA (persistence) and EJB3 Tools is for doing EJB3 development (session beans etc.). EJB3 > JPA

JBossAS-Tools: "JBossAS Tools (WTP based adapter) 1.0.0.Beta2 (standalone)." just as it says on the download page. Meaning the WTP based adapter for controlling/using JBossAS.

You don't need to try every single download; just get the *all* plugins download.

p.s. I'm sure Marshall would like help on get the page better documented - it is opensource after all; contributions are always welcome.

Thanks for the response. (By the way, if there's interest in helping document that page better, how would one go about it?)

                - What is JBossIDE-Core-2.0.0.Beta2.zip? Does it include everything in the "all" bundle minus Webtools and Eclipse? (In that case it'd be JBossIDE plus ALL plugins?)

                - So JBossAS-Tools is included as part of JBossIDE? Then who would download JBossAS-Tools alone?

                - What exactly is a "WTP based adapter for controlling/using JBossAS"? (I'm new to this, you'll have to forgive my lack of knowledge...)

                Thanks.

post to our public dev mailing list and Marshall will let you know how he would like the changes.

I don't see that name on the download page. What are you referring to ?

Those who don't want/use the other plugins.

it is a plugin that utilizes and extends Eclipse WTP server deployment functionallity.

JBossIDE-Core-2.0.0.Beta2.zip is on the SourceForge download page.

                      Hello..

JBossIDE-Core is what we affectionately refer to as our "core" component/set of plugins of JBossIDE. After looking over the download guide I noticed we actually have no link for this zip file directly (big oops! ). Basically, this is where the functionality for XDoclet, Packaging, and older J2EE (1.3/1.4) descriptor wizards live.

Please keep in mind if you are downloading either the Bundle or ALL zips, the Core will most definately be included in that download.

If you think you can improve on our download documentation, I would be more than happy to look at any changes you might make... If you like just send me your proposed changes, and if everything is in order I will post them to jboss.org =).

JBossIDE-Core. I noticed that this includes large sets of standard eclipse plugins (emf, wst, xsd). I already have all these dependancies as part of my custom Callisto download. Is it possible to provide a core download excluding any dependancies?

jboss ide 2.x builds/downloads provides this seperation.

                            Thanks
Are you referring to the main JBoss download portal (http://labs.jboss.com/portal/jbosside/download/index.html)? I don't see what you are referring to... I need the what you refer to as the "core" components (XDoclet, Packaging, etc) without all the Eclipse components (emf, wst, etc).

                              yes, its the -nodeps download.

Still cant find the right downloads! Where do I find the core, xdoclet and packaging components?

                                • 13. Re: What is to be downloaded?

This was our fault.. the core downloads links were accidentally left out of the page.. I have put them up now. (Look for JBossIDE Core, and you'll want the "nodeps" version)
