lazy loading of tabPanel content?

I have a tabbed panel that contains 8 primary tabs with another 11 tabs contained within the primary 8 tabs. I want to delay the loading of the content of the tab until it is selected by the user. Otherwise it takes way to long to load. The tabs contain a mix of tables and charts and some can be large. Is there a way of doing this?

Aren't the tabs lazily loaded when you have switchtype to either "ajax" or "server" ?
