an interface cannot be both a @Local and @Remote interface. But you can do:

interface Top {}

@Local interface MyLocal extrends top {}

@Remote interface MyRemote extends Top {}

Yes at first glance, it seems a little awkward, but makes sense when you look at injection:

@EJB MyInterface ejbref;

If MyInterface is both local and remote, there is no way for the container to know if you want a local or remote proxy injected without additional metadata.
