inserting object into database using ejb3

i want to know apart from entitymanager.persist(object) is there any other way to do the same.

can we acheive the samething using insert statement,

can anybody tell me what would be the syntax?

EntityManager.merge(Object) works too.

persist is like an SQL INSERT
merge is like an SQL INSERT/UPDATE
