deploying processdefinition

No , it isn't, it is running locally (Assuming you do it the same as in the example)

for a normal .par file

1.move curser to your src/process/YOURDEFN.par
2. right click on it and select *deploy process archieve*

that's right, but the jbpm server should be running locally (127.0.0.1:8080) and have the jbpm webapp deployed to have the above thing work
