    features of jBPM

    sergio.rahman

First of all, sorry if this is not the right location for this question.

For my internship I am comparing (among other things of course) features of different open source workflow management platforms. But because I am evaluating a lot of alternatives, I don't really have the time to go digging through the software looking for the features. It would really help me if someone could just tell me if the following features are already in jBPM or if they have to developed by users themselves:

      - Adding attributes to process steps (or maybe activities is the right word)
      - Modeling processes in a hierarchic fashion and connecting processes to each other
      - Defining the level of a process (valuechain process, business process, work process, etc.)
      - A library function for the reuse of process steps

      Thanks in advance

PS. I am also evaluating the response time on the forum ;)

I hope this response is quick enough, but it will not give you the answers you want.

          - Do not ever say in a forum that you do not have the time to find things yourself. *We* do *not* want to make time to respond to these kinds of questions (yes I know I do now)
          - Do not crosspost
          - ...

            Sorry for crossposting.

Well the thing is, I've installed the starter kit and read the documentation (which is hard enough as it is, when you have little or no experience with workflow or programming for that matter). I've found a lot of the requirements I was looking for, but couldn't explicitely find the mentioning of these three or find them myself in the software. So I'm guessing they aren't available in jBPM, but I just wanted to be sure.

The no-time issue is just saying that I'm not going to spend any more time looking for it and continue with another software package. Using this forum gives me the opportunity to evaluate the community.

The difference between open source software and proprietary software is that there is no vendor available for these sort of questions and I have to rely on communities for support and information.

Then state so, you would have gotten another reaction then.

Wrong, although it is good to see that you say 'open source' and 'proprietary' and not 'commercial'. The thing is that there *is* a vendor available for these kinds of questions. JBoss is a commercial company (they need and want to make money) and you can contact them and ask these questions, get support etc.
