it can be possible in 2.2 with the feature I have added today (portal events), the listener could listen for navigation events and when it goes to edit mode at the same time change the window state to maximize the portlet -

mholzner Aug 19, 2005 11:57 AM (in response to patrickdalla)another way you could use is the layout strategy (in 2.2) It has access to all the portlets and their navigational state (window state and portlet mode) of the current request. You can change any of them in the strategy, so you could check for the targeted portlet (in a render request) and if the targeted portlet was going into edit mode, you could change the window state to maximized.
We currently use the strategy to handle the maximized behavior (only one portlet can be maximized at a time)
