Addition of navigation portlet window

I have set up a new portal. I am trying to add navigation portlet window to the navigation region of the default page in my new portal. I am doing this through the management portlet. I get the error: "Validation error". Please help.

I am using Portal ver. 2.4.

When you added the navigation portlet to the window, did you give it a name (in the field to the left of the drop-down list box) and did you click on the "Add navigation" button?
