1. Re: How to use Mysql 5 as jboss-portal-2.6.4-bundled databas
porcho Mar 11, 2008 1:29 PM (in response to maxi0361)Well, I'm new to JBoss Portal...but, AFAIK, you should've deleted portal-hsqldb-ds.xml.
Those who know JBP better correct me if I wrong, please! :-) -

maxi0361 Mar 17, 2008 2:31 AM (in response to maxi0361)That means I should keep hsql-ds.xml, remove portal-hsql-ds.xml.
and then add mysql-ds.xml?? -

peterj Mar 17, 2008 11:57 AM (in response to maxi0361)By the way, the reference guide contains detailed instructions on configuring the portal to use mysql.

soumakchatterjee Mar 18, 2008 5:15 AM (in response to maxi0361)I used the reference guide to configure mysql as the portal database and also removed the portal-hsqldb-ds.xml file.
Checking in the MySQL DB the tables have been created.
On trying to access the Portal URL it throws a 'null pointer exception' -- any hints on where I should look at?
The Portal is running perfectly with the HSQLDB.

6. Re: How to use Mysql 5 as jboss-portal-2.6.4-bundled databas
soumakchatterjee Mar 18, 2008 6:03 AM (in response to maxi0361)I restarted the servers, checked my MySQL, created a new database with all access privileges again. This time there is no 'Null pointer exception' but the home page only shows the top panel and the three tabs. Also, I cannot login.
My environment -
JBoss Portal Version - 2.6.4
Did you get Portal from CVS? - Downloaded the AS + Portal Bundle
Database Vendor and Version - MySQL 5
OS Platform - Windows XP 5.1 x86
Any help? -
7. Re: How to use Mysql 5 as jboss-portal-2.6.4-bundled databas
peterj Mar 18, 2008 11:28 AM (in response to maxi0361)First, you should have started a new post and not appended to an existing post.
From what you are describing, it would appear that the access control is set up such that you do not have access to any of the portlets. Is the login link visible? If you login as admin do the portlets show up?
What commands did you use to create the database and user in the database? When you wiped out the database, did you also remove the server/xxx/tmp, server/xxx/data and server/xxx/work directories? Are there any exceptions showing up in the log when you access the portal's home page? -

does this means JBoss portal is running on mysql, but JBoss AS is still running on Hsql?
Can I set both JNDI to use Mysql? -
11. Re: How to use Mysql 5 as jboss-portal-2.6.4-bundled databas
peterj Mar 19, 2008 11:38 AM (in response to maxi0361)There are several services within JBossAS that use a database - messaging, uuid generation, etc. If you want, you can change all of those services to use MySQL. But unless you are actually making use of those services, it is usually easier to just leave them using Hypersonic.
JNDI does not use a database.
