JBoss portal bundled with JBoss AS consume almost 200 MB memory.
Any approach to optimize it? (Any unneeded components to be removed? )

Actually, 200MB of memory for an app server is not high. You can remove unused services, which is always good for security reasons, but that will not result in a significant memory reduction.

More specifically to Portal, you could also remove the CMS and WSRP modules if you don't use either but, as Peter said, it probably won't amount to much.
