One thing of note it that I am using portlets, but that shouldn't make a difference. -

gavin.king Dec 15, 2006 1:11 AM (in response to jgilbert)Seam was swallowing the real exception, which was from Hibernate Validator. This is now fixed in CVS.
You should be using required=true on your JSF fields.
