I downloaded a recent nightly build (jboss-seam-CVS.20070105.zip) and id attributes are now in the rendered HTML, but expressions in the attribute value don't seem to be evaluated. Other attributes like styleClass don't seem to have this problem.

Not supported, as in "not yet supported" or "never to be supported." I was going to cobble in a patch, but I'm now wondering what I would be breaking. -

Ah, yes, I see now. Literal component identifiers are part of the JSF spec.
