(i) download ANT documentation.
(ii) learn ANT.
(iii) open the build.xml and determine what it does to build the system.
(iv) do (iii) for the various quickstarts.
(v) cross reference with the ANT tasks that the build.xml uses.
(vi) invoke javac, javadoc, etc. equivalents of the ANT tasks.
(vii) confirm that the output you get is what is expected.
Of course you might just find it easier to download and install ANT in the first place.
