    JBossTS JTS dual license explained

Guys, could you please clarify the dual/commercial(OEM?) license for the JTS flavor?

      What's the other, non-(L)GPL license?

It's for business reasons only. Same as MySQL.

That's exactly my confusion. If e.g. I provide a framework, but to utilize it to a full extent the end-user must use the JTS version of JBossTS, my options are:

            1. Don't bundle JBossTS JTS and have the end-user download, install and configure it herself, granted her use is compliant with GPL (e.g. in-house service).
            2. The user buys a commercial license for JBossTS JTS and uses it in any form complying with the license (much more business-friendly, I figure).

That is, this is only if the license is incompatible with GPL. Are my assumptions above correct?

Yes, that is correct. However, while your customer could choose to get the "dual license", most of the time it is going to be the ISV (i.e. you in that case) that will do so: hence YOUR customers will not have to worry about this. This is typically the case for OEM/ISV with a lot of end-customers: the ISV signs a single dual-licensing agreement with us and none of its customer has to worry about this anymore.

Note that this discussion on dual-license only applies to JBoss *JTS*: JBoss *JTA* is licensed under the LGPL, not the GPL/dual.

              Cheers,

              Sacha

Thanks Sacha. Yes, JTA is no problem, but then, JTS flavor has so much more interesting stuff :D
