colorPicker - hide input field?

Is there a  way to properly hide the text input field on the colorPicker so just the icon with the currently selected colour is displayed?  I can hide it by setting a css property for the class .rich-colorPicker-span input but then when I click on the colour icon the expanded view is rendered at the top of the page, rather than below the icon like it should be.

Any suggestions?
