Infinispan functionality

Does infinispan offer some functionality like gemfire regions?

To have the possibility to manage cached data in regions/subregions - hierarchical structures?

Not exactly.  We do have 1 level of hierarchical config management but no more.  For example, you can define additional caches on a cache container and these will inherit settings from the default cache.

Perhaps a similar affect can be achieved using ModeShape with Infinispan. I know its not the same, but it does give you a hierachal view.
