call start <a4j:status from javascript

I´ve a wait status box implemented and i want to call it while resizing the browser window.

Is it possible to call the <a4j:status from javascript directlty ??

I did it with Richfaces.showModalPanel('waitModalPanel'); but i would like to reRender the full page in the background.

Now i do something like

setNewWindowsSize();
Richfaces.showModalPanel('waitModalPanel');
window.location.href=window.location.href;
