Observation capability on connectors

Hi

Looking at the reference guide,  I see ModeShape supports the observation JCR feature, and also has a range of connectors for presenting a JCR interface over other repositories.

I was wondering whether the observation capability is supported on all the connectors? At the moment I am specfically interested in the svn connector.

ModeShape's connector framework does allow connectors to push events up into the JCR layer, but at this time file system and SVN connectors are not implemented this way (they do not watch for changes).

So no technical reason it couldn't be done - I guess I just need to raise a jira if I find I need it.

No, it's absolutely possible. With the file system connector, this will be much easier with Java 7 (and the new file system events). The SVN connector would probably have to periodically poll and do the equivalent of an 'svn log'. It's a bit complicated because the connector doesn't use a local checkout area. But it's possible.

And if you find that you do need/want it, please fill out a request with any requirements, and we'll get it scheduled. I just checked, and we don't yet have one outlining this for the SVN connector.
