Is jboss.xml optional for EJB 2.x in JBoss 5/6?

I have an ear project with ejb modules that do not have a jboss.xml definition and it works fine in JBoss 3.2.5. So I guess it is optional? But when I deployed the file to JBoss 6 it is not working. All the EJBs are not bound to JNDI. I wonder if I have to add a jboss.xml to specify all those JNDI names?

Yes, jboss.xml has always been optional and continues to be optional in AS6 too.
