I suppose the problem is that you mix new and old version of log4j (the TRACE level rise in one of the 1.2.? version).
So:
do you pack a log4j.jar with your application ==> remove it from your EAR/WAR...
add or replace log4j.jar to jboss lib common/lib server/.../lib ==> remove it and use the original one.

Oh yeah, I have seen many developers just stuff in those jars into the JRE folder whenever they have some classpath issues.
