Focus component after ajax request (RF4)

If I see it correctly a4j:ajax isn't capable yet of setting the focus after an ajax request. So what would be the recommended workaround for the time being?

calling a js-function, too?

It does work with something like

oncomplete="#{rich:element('detailForm:address:lastname')}.focus();"

e.g. in an a4j:commandButton.

So is this the way to go for the time being?
