Excel downloading from an action button

Hi all,

I'm using seam-2.1.1 and I have a very simple issue that I don't know how to deal with:

How to generate an Excel file from a command button action?

(I mean.. validate and apply the form fields to the beans and, if ok, display the file for downloading in the browser)

I'm assuming you want to generate the Excel via the Seam Excel support. If not you can use whatever library you want and simpy write the Excel to the HTTP response.

Have you tried simply returning the view id from the action? If the objects you wish to use when rendering the excel are still in scope then that should work fine.

   return "/xls/some_xls.xhtml";
}
