Thanks for your reply . We are planning to integrate TEIID for dhe data virtualization and federation. We would be using TEIID in embedded mode and would like to know that going forward community will be supporting TEIID in embedded mode or not ?  Supporting TEIID in embedded mode is a long term plan or not , means will it be available in future releases also or not ?

Himanshu,

There are couple different issues you are talking here.

1) Is "embedded" will be in future releases of Teiid - YES. We are just re-introducing this and I expect this to evolve more fully in terms of API and documentation and examples, the whole eco system around it in coming releases.

2) Support - means entirely different. In out mind, support means when a production system is down or when you are hung up on issue, or need a enhancement on a feature,  is there is phone number you can call to get help. The answer is same for any open source projects. The community runs on volunteers and it depends on their time and motivation. That is where Redhat steps in and provides the much needed support for any organizations through subscription. Teiid is supported through Redhat as Enterprise Data Services platform. There is no embedded version available through subscription currently (as of 10/12), however that should be available in coming months.

You are more than welcome to ask questions and submit issues on Teiid forums, we will try our best to answer them.

1) Whata are licensing policies as well as cost if any if we go for Teiid ?

2) If we plan to go for Red Hat Enterprise version of teiid , than there are no of things we would like to clarify.

• Is there is any tentative date when we can expect embedded mode available in Enterprise version ?
• Whate is the licensing cost , or different licensing policies available ?
• Does licensing cost include the support cost or there is separate yearly support cost also.
• As mentione by you above embedded mode is still evolving , so just want to know what all features are not supported in embedeed mode which are there in Standalone mode. As , i

        tried to find  out the list of the missing features , but couldnt found the it somewhere on documentation.

Teiid is licensed under LGPL2. It is open source.

Redhat plans to release EDS6 (Enterprise Data Services) second quater of 2012. They are planning an alpha release early next year.

• Whate is the licensing cost , or different licensing policies available ?

You would have to contact Redhat sales for that.  Redhat offers subscriptions to product bits, not licensing. i.e. updates are included as long as subscription is active.

• Does licensing cost include the support cost or there is separate yearly support cost also.

Subscription costs generally include support with defined SLA. There are different options here, so I would suggest talking to Redhat sales for accurate information.

It uses the same query engine, so it has all the query features as in JBoss AS. Some of the  API to integrate the embedded, defining the VDB is still under going minor changes between releases. Documentation is lacking.  As for missing features, compared to JBoss AS version there are many enterprise related ones, that one would need to write when they want to embed in other environments as you are trying to do.

For example,

* no authorization module

* no deployment modules for vdbs, translators

* no transaction manager

* no connection factories

* no configuration/admin management
