1. Re: What are the steps to upgrade Infinispan 4.2.0 to 5.2.1 Final on JBoss AS 6.1.0 Final
robert.greene Apr 12, 2013 11:32 AM (in response to robert.greene)After attempting to upgrade from Infinispan 4.2.x to something greater. I ihave learned the following:
Upgrading from 4.2.x in Jboss as 6.1.0 Final is easy, just download the 4.2.1 jar files and replace a few jar files.
Infinispan 5.0.1 Final uses jGroups 2.12.3. (I use this anyway, so upgrading was not too bad.) Add some jar files, modify some config files.
I am still getting
ISPN000156: You are not starting all your caches at the same time. This can lead to problems as asymmetric clusters are not supported, see ISPN-658. We recommend using EmbeddedCacheManager.startCaches() to start all your caches upfront.
In my log files. I am usure what to do about it.

why don't you upgrade to a newer version of Infinispan? Your intention was to upgrade to 5.2.1 and the issue you have was fixed in 5.1.0.BETA2

robert.greene Apr 12, 2013 11:29 AM (in response to mgencur)I'm not sure how to upgrade to Infinispan 5.1.x. for JBoss AS 6.1.0 Final. I have seen some posts on how to do this, but it seems that JGroups 3.x is necessary for the Infinispan transport. I don't know how (if possible) to upgrade Jboss AS 6.1.0 Final to Jgroups to 3.x. I don't want an embedded cache. I want hibernate to use the cache.
I would love to upgrade to Jboss AS 7.x, EAP 6.x etc. But that is not an option for now.
If anyone has info on how to upgrade to Infinispan 5.1.x for Jboss AS 6 I would take that route.

nadirx Apr 12, 2013 11:48 AM (in response to robert.greene)Robert, you need JGroups only if you need to use Infinispan or JBoss clustering. So the problem arises only if you want to use both at the same time.

robert.greene Apr 12, 2013 11:51 AM (in response to nadirx)Unfortunately I do use clustering. I want to use a distributed or replicated cluster. (Not sure yet which one.) I am still very new to Infinispan.

nadirx Apr 12, 2013 12:01 PM (in response to robert.greene)1 of 1 people found this helpfulIt's probably less effort to upgrade to EAP6/AS7.x, since I seem to remember you need to change / recompile the bits of AS6 which use clustering and there might be problems with JBoss Logging as well... Thank $DEITY for the modules in AS7.x !
