I need more information about what you are doing. Is this in the UI? Is it in a CLI script? What exactly is the failure?
I'll mention one thing about the CLI that may be relevant. When you fetch information, for example, maybe you did a findResourcesByCriteria, the resources will not include JOINED (i.e lazy loaded) information by default. This is to save time fetching JOINED information that is not usually needed. For example, you'd need to add resourceCriteria.fetchParentResource(true) to include the parent resources. And even then, the parents themselves will not have the JOINED information. So, you would need to perform a second fetch using the parentId to get more detailed information about the parent, if needed.

I'm still not sure what the actual error is so I can't really help you. Perhaps the parent node is locked. Is there a lock icon on it? If you are an admin user this would not be the problem, but if you are using group-based authorization it is possible the parent may not be accessible to the user. In that case it will show in the tree, because we always show ancestry, but you will not be able to get information for it. That should not cause an exception/failure, though.
There is nothing in the plugin code that would affect the UI, as far as i can see. Unless perhaps it is a live data request, which is unusual.

Hi jay,
How to avoid this error, still now i cant fix it. at the same time, i am the admin user, There is no lock icon. in the child nodes are getting the values well. One more issue is, when i click the parent node summary it says,"GLOBALLY UNCAUGHT EXCEPTION" . The parent only give the trouble , how can i fix. any guidelines for my case.

Thanks for posting the exception. It's unfortunately still difficult to understand the root cause as UI stack traces don't provide a lot of useful information. Have you tried refreshing your browser with Ctl-F5? It almost looks like the cached resource types are out of date ( I see "onTypesLoaded_24@,,," ). If you recently upgraded and never refreshed the browser it can sometimes cause issues. Or, if you loaded new versions of plugins on the server, and those updates made changes to the types, and it's those types involved in the resources you are dealing with in your tree, perhaps that could be an issue as well. So, refresh the browser cache.
Otherwise we will need more information because no one else is reporting this issue, which would be a very bad issue given that you can't click on an auto-group node.
Does this happen for all autogroup nodes? Or just a specific node? If just one node, what is the resource type? What version of RHQ? Are there any server-side errors that are reported at the same time?

I have tried browser cache option. And more over I have tried to delete the cache files (rhq-server-4.5.1\jbossas\server\default\deploy\rhq.ear\coregui.war\org.rhq.enterprise.gui.coregui.CoreGUI). Still I cant solve the problem.

We have tried with the same plugin code for different plugins ( By changing the plugin Name, artifactId,package ,display name,etc..) . Finally at last, a plugin worked fine. Out of 10 plugin a single plugin is working fine. In our plugin, We are having 1 parent and 5 childs ( might has 1 or 2 childs per each). Each child resource is working fine. Are those 5 child resources really having those strange names that don't display? I honestly don't know what the issue could be. If you click on the other parent nodes (autogroup nodes), do you see similar failures? Like the "Network Adapters" or "Postfix Servers" tree nodes?
If not I would have to say it is somehow linked to the particular data type you are dealing with, which is your custom type, I believe. Although I'm not aware of restrictions on type names, perhaps try removing the special characters, like "_-." that I see and try again.

I dont see similar failures on the inbuilt plugins. In my custom plugin, I am facing this error.
I am using trait and measurement data type. Sure I will try to remove those special characters and will update you.
