Does your jboss.xml file contain something like this:

<enterprise-beans>

<ejb-name>HelloWorldViaHTTP</ejb-name>
<configuration-name>HTTP Stateless SessionBean</configuration-name>
<jndi-name>helloworld/HelloHTTP</jndi-name>

</enterprise-beans>

yes , except my confuration block is at the top. does that make a difference?

Besides port 8080, what other ports must I open. I was under the impression that all the neccessary connections would be done thru 8080. thanks again.

yes i am still having problems. i cannot access the mailing list on sourceforge for jboss. i have signed up and have a username and pw. i already sent a post via email but have not gotten any responses.

If your email is subscribed you should receive all posts.
Scott Stark answered you. He pointed you to Hello testsuite. There is actually a config that I posted.
Solve the problem with subscription and post your problem there.
