1. Re: Who is managing JBoss versions?
wdfink Jun 27, 2013 2:50 AM (in response to alitokmen)You can have two versions of JBoss
- names are AS or JBossAS which are now renamed to WildFly
this is the community edition and you can use it for free according to the license
it is possible to get the release from github and build a version based on tags or upstream, also there are nightly builds
- EAP (Enterprise Application Platform)
this is the supported version and you might need a subscription to use it
with EAP6.1 the Alpha version was free to use, EAP6.1.Final is restricted and you can not use it in production without a subscription (there are several threads regarding this here)
The difference is if you look at the 6.1 (2011) this is a community release, and this release never integrated in the EAP. So because of that the release count is now different, the relation was AS5=>EAP5 but AS7=>EAP6.
If you look to github you will find version tags with 7.2.0 and the EAP6.1 is based on that, so if you need 7.2.0 you are able to use EAP6.1.0.Alpha which include the same bits.
This was one of the reasons that there is no 7.2.0.Final build and no donwload entries. The next community release will be WildFly8.

2. Re: Who is managing JBoss versions?
alitokmen Jun 27, 2013 4:08 AM (in response to wdfink)Hi Wolf
Thanks for the information.
Unfortunately, the fact that the page http://www.jboss.org/jbossas/downloads lists two version 6.1.0.Final (one release in 2011 and another in 2013) is extremely confusing.
I actually tried with 10 people, and 2 of them downloaded the "old" one (and then wondered why the documentation doesn't match) (and then told me we should work with GlassFish instead).
It would help to at least name the "AS" versions "AS xxx" and the "EAP" versions "EAP xxx".
Best regards

Although it's debatable why someone would scroll all the way down a page for downloading 6.1.0.Final when it's already the first entry, I do agree with what you are saying. I thought at one point we actually had them listed as EAP 6.1.0.Final, but I'm not sure. I'll check with someone who handle that page to see if they are willing to change it and be explicit about EAP in the name.
