1. Re: Looking for clarification on what options there are for a Production version of TEIID
rareddy Nov 19, 2013 11:51 AM (in response to bzarboni)Teiid 8.3+ runs on EAP 6.1-Alpha which is free to use however you want, the licensing is similar to that of JBoss AS 7.1.1.
However if you want to use EAP 6.1.GA or DV6(product form of Teiid), that is only available for developer use, the license restricts usage in the production without subscription from Redhat. Ultimately it is up to you which version you want to place in the production, but I will not recommend depending upon community for support of your production environment.
HTH. If interested contact Redhat sales for further information on pricing etc.

bzarboni Nov 19, 2013 12:01 PM (in response to rareddy)Hi Ramesh,
Thanks for that. Any idea if future releases of EAP will follow the same model (ie an alpha release with open usage)?
Cheers,
Ben Z

rareddy Nov 19, 2013 1:01 PM (in response to bzarboni)1 of 1 people found this helpfulI believe so, however not for minor versions like EAP 6.2 etc, only when new major versions come out like EAP 7.x. Given that we are going to keep developing > Teiid 8.3 versions on EAP-6.1-Alpha. and move to WildFly possibly for Teiid 9

bzarboni Nov 19, 2013 2:13 PM (in response to rareddy)Fantastic, thanks Ramesh.
I know I'm asking a lot of questions, and this may be off-topic for the TEIID group, but do you know what restrictions are on the different EAP servers in Production (ie am I limited in the number of cores / memory), or is this strictly a licensing issue.
Cheers,
Ben Z

rareddy Nov 19, 2013 2:29 PM (in response to bzarboni)Ben,
I do not know about that. But the license agreement you signed while downloading the EAP 6.1.GA explicitly prohibits using it in production.

bzarboni Nov 20, 2013 7:33 AM (in response to rareddy)Thanks for the info Ramesh.
Don't get me wrong, I don't intend to use any of the servers in an unauthorized way, I'm just trying to understand what the options and their limitations are.
Cheers,
Ben

rareddy Nov 20, 2013 8:48 AM (in response to bzarboni)Ben,
No problem. I just want you to be aware of the differences between JBoss AS and EAP. Community members sometimes do not understand the differences in license model and its restrictions. So I wanted to be clear for anybody else who may be reading the thread.
We love open source development and eco-system around it, thus our passion to build great software using it. It is the community members like you who make it tick and make it worth while. So by all means use the community versions as you see fit. Better yet, participate in further development in features, discussions, blogs, documents, issues and patches and those we can not do without YOU.
Thank you for using Teiid.
Ramesh..
