Does any of the SMX container components such as SAXON have a WSDL that describes the abstract portions of the service itself?

No, WSDL is not required by ServiceMix so there are no components that define this.

So when the spec refers to this (often), it sounds like it is referring to MEPS in WSDL? I agree that the terminology in the spec if a bit misleading.

Well ServiceMix supports WSDL for defining endpoints (i.e., the SU to configure a JBI component) but it doesn't require it.
