FUSE ESB boot in Windows extremely slow

    martinn_martin.nonnenmacher

      Hi,

I have experienced problems with FUSE ESB Versions 4.2.0 and 4.3.0 on Windows XP and Windows 7. While the first start of FUSE ESB on my Ubuntu machine only takes about 20-30 seconds, i takes about 20-30 minutes on the windows machines before all bundles are active.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour, or does anyone have a tip what could be the reason for this? If you need any additional information to help, please tell me.

      Thanks

      Martin

          Hi,

I guess your windows maven local repo miss some artifacts which cause remote download during start up esb.

But please check the internet access and bandwidth with your windows machine, it shouldn't take such long time even download some artifacts remotely.

Also if you are behind a proxy or something like that, can slow down downloading artifacts. Or a connection attempt is made and it takes a long time to timeout.

Thanks for you replies. During the first start there is very slow network traffic, so it could be related with maven. But I think if the problem would be caused by missing maven artifacts in the local repository it should only appear at the very first start up of the fuse esb, but I just tried it out, and the second start up again took about 15 minutes, and again there was very slow network traffic (I cleaned the Servicemix cache to make the results comparable).

We don't use any proxies here and the windows and linux machines use the same internet connection settings.

As soon as I find time I will do a more detailed comparison between what happens on windows and linux and post the results here.

In the meantime, I would be grateful if you have any more ideas what could cause the problem.

Could you search this forum? I have a vague memory of this issue mentioned before in the past. I may be wrong.

You can enable some logging to see whats happening.

And if you have a local computer maybe try unplugging network cable so its 100% offline.

I just found time to investigate this issue. I tried versions 4.3.0-fuse-00-00 to 4.3.0-fuse-03-00 on a Win XP running in VirtualBox and couldn't reproduce the problem. However, on the Windows machines from my colleagues it appeared with the versions prior to 4.3.0-fuse-03-00 and disappeared when they upgraded to this version. Since it works now I won't investigate any further what caused the problem on their machines.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
