Very long JNDI lookuptimes

I am writing a client that uses EJB-beans at a JBoss server. It takes extremly long time to make a lookup (more than 4 seconds). Is this really normal?

Definitely not!

JNDI lookup times are normally measured in microseconds rather than seconds.
