Basically, Hibernate (which is the underlying mechanism used by JBoss AS to support JPA) examines the contents of the entity bean and creates a "CREATE TABLE" SQL statement based on what it finds and submits that to the database. Hibernate maintains mappings of Java data types to database data types for a variety of databases so that it can correctly define the column types when iy creates a table. -

peterj Dec 17, 2009 5:18 PM (in response to amira88)You can read about Hibernate on the Hibernate web site at https://www.hibernate.org/. And there are several good books about Hibernate - "Java Persistence with Hibernate" comes to mind. -
