Can you please look at the patches provided in:

     http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/hibernate/browse/HHH-5372  (Improve envers query performance by using new REVEND column)

and

     http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/hibernate/browse/HHH-5371   (Add support for REVEND_TSTMP which will enable SQL table partitioning by time)

I've looked at them and they seem pretty good to me, though they need a couple of tests though.
