The default behaviour when using a rich:panelMenuGroup is as follows: one click expands the group, another click collapses it again. What I want is to add a button / icon to the panel menu group which has to be clicked in order to expand / collapse the group? A regular click (so not on the button / icon) should just call the associated action...

Is this possible?
