Old overview of Business Activity Monitoring (BAM)

Business Activity Monitoring is the aggregation, analysis, and presentation of real time information about activities inside organizations and enterprises. BAM is an enterprise solution primarily intended to provide a real-time summary of business activities to operations managers and upper management.

The goals of the jBPM BAM are to provide real-time information about the status and results of various operations, processes, and transactions. This information is rendered on dashboards that contain key performance indicators (KPI) representing the status and the performance of different activities.

The main benefits of BAM are:

    • Enable an enterprise to make better informed business decisions,

    • Quickly address problem areas

    • Re-position organizations to take full advantage of emerging opportunities.

    • Detect bottlenecks and thresholds

    • Instantaneous identification of various areas that would require immediate attention and / or action.

Components of the jBPM BAM Solution

The jBPM BAM solution consists of the following components.

    Reports Repository

The outcome of the BAM solution is to provide a repository of secured and easily-accessible reports for management and operations. These reports are subject to go into optimization algorithms which can identify the mechanism by which the operation is enhanced.

The reports repository contains the retrieved information of the and can be organized as follows:

    1. Deployed workflow instances grouped by:

      1. Workflow category

      2. Deployment date

      3. Version number

    Processes Instances Reports

    1. Running workflow instances by

      1. Status (Running, Canceled, Completed, etc...)

      2. Workflow category

      3. Execution time-line

      4. Mostly used workflows

      5. Users

        1. Assigned users and their tasks along with the number of instances assigned (useful for business intelligence)

        2. Number of executed tasks per user

    Historical Reports

For each individual create the following history reports

    1. Completed tasks grouped by workflows and workflow categories. Show as well the complete history of the process (This needs further discussion to determine whether the user should see the complete process or not)

    2. In-Progress tasks grouped by workflows and workflow categories

    3. Cancelled tasks grouped by workflows and workflow categories

    Automated Reports

One additional feature of the web console is to enable users to define the automatically generated reports that will be automatically compiled over a periodic time frame and have those reports stored for download in a private and secured area.
