Manage JBoss Portal 2.0 CMS Documents Via an External Editor

Note: This does not work in JBoss Portal 2.2RC2.

Since JBoss Portal 2.0 CMS sits on top of WebDAV, you can manage portal content via any WebDAV enabled editor like Dreamweaver. You can also use Windows &147;My Network Places&148;.

Here's a quick guide on how to manage CMS content outside of the portal's WYSIWYG tool

    • Connect to the Portal&146;s webDAV repository (You will need a portal admin user-id/password to do so) &150; Took a few minutes to setup in Dreamweaver, (http://localhost:8080/webdav/files)

    • Copy existing static site content into this location. You can also edit/move/copy existing files.

    • A good WebDAV editor will also support Check-In/Check-Out.

    • Changes are made instantly available via the portal.

I have validated that this does indeed work, and will provide a simple, straightforward way to bring existing content into the portal content repository. Also, the portal&146;s WYSIWIG HTML editor can still be used to edit files that have been created/modified by the external editor.

While this process doesn&146;t offer robust content management functions like fine grained permissions and workflow, it is capable of managing portal controlled content.
