Baseline Workload Phase

When starting a tuning effort, it is very import to determine a workload that will represent the real load an application should expect when deployed in a production environment. Creating the correct workload can be difficult as it is sometimes difficult to tell what parts of an application should be stressed the most and whether some applications require several areas of that application to be exercised simultaneously. When the workload has been established, a baseline reading should be taken. The workload should be used throughout the tuning exercise and the baseline reading should be used to determine any progress made or lost.

With respect to SPECjAppServer2002, the workload has been determined by the SPEC organization and is administered via the SPECjAppServer2002 Benchmark Driver.
