• 4.1 is in production and is therefore in maintenance mode, meaning only bug fixes and important improvements will be released.

5.0

• Redesigned metamodel - replacement for the current org.hibernate.mapping code
• Multi-tenancy support (phase 2)

Beyond

• Unified SQL generation - important for all kinds of features such as:
  • Improved handling of collection fetches  - depends on Unified SQL generation
    
  • Fetch Profiles (phase 2) -- implement the remainder of the fetch profile strategies: select, subselect.
• Inheritance for composite classes (component/embeddable) - hopefully this will make it into 5.0
